GCW TOS 5 Preview, ICW Insane 8 Preview, Lots of BJW Dates and Much More
North America and Mexico News
GCW
GCW has announced the full TOS 5 first round line up. RSP takes on Jimmy Lloyd, Atticus Cogar will take on Allie Kat, Eric Ryan will take on Shane Mercer and Alex Colon will take on Shlak.

The obvious standouts of the first round are Eric Ryan vs. Shane Mercer and Colon vs. Shlak.
Colon vs. Shlak has been a match brewing for a while. In a bit of full circle Shlak was an impromptu runin at last year’s TOS when G-Raver was injured. He ran into the ring from the merchandise table and in 2 moves almost killed Alex Colon.
Its a good mix of styles as Shlak can take all the punishment and Colon can provide all the big movement to make the match kinetic and fast. Eric Ryan and Mercer should have a fantastic match since both are just awesome overall. I would expect Ryan vs. Colon in the semis.
Eric Ryan is one of the best in the genre right now. He brings massive intensity and athleticism to everything he does so I’d take him over the “novice”, Shane Mercer. Mercer has been dabbling more and more in deathmatches and is also an all around amazing athlete. He’s a professional power lifter and I know there’s some issues sometimes with being a professional gym rat and a deathmatch guy as its hard to let cuts heal.
Allie Kat is new to deathmatches. She’s had some stuff in the past vs. Nick Gage and been involved in matches with tubes being swung but as far as I know this is the first “deathmatch” she’s actually been in but I know people are expecting a lot from her. Atticus Cogar is a young guy that is rising through GCW and ICW:NHB right now and is the “youngboy” for 44.Oh.
Finally is RSP and Jimmy Lloyd, both TOD winners, and RSP is the GCW world champion. Lloyd is always ready to explode out but I think RSP is gonna go past the first round here.
Its the first TOS (since the first) to not have outside/international talent. The lineup definitely lacks that “shock” factor like having The Great Sasuke or Daisuke Masaoka on the card but given the situations this has some real work horses, some maniacs and some wild cards.
They’ve been teasing some 44.Oh vs. 44.Oh matches throughout the tournament and with Gage out they need to shift the 44.Oh storyline. A good story would be Eric Ryan leaving the group in some fashion and running RSP through the roster to build up to that match.
I was sent these and haven’t been able to verify them but here are your TOS betting odds from Caesar’s Hotel
RSP 2-1
Alex 5-2
Ryan 12-1
SHLAK 12-1
Atticus 20-1
Mercer 25-1
Jimmy 50-1
Allie 100-1
Also on the weekend will be AR Fox making his GCW debut. AR Fox was a mainstay of the CZW-area indies in the 2000’s and was always insanely talented but never reached the level he probably should have. He will be on both TOS and Jimmy Lloyd’s Jersey Shore show.
David Arquette did a press interview for his documentary on his stint back in wrestling and he mentioned that Vice’s Dark Side of the Ring is doing a show on Nick Gage.
It sounds like Gage will be out for a while.
ICW: NHB
ICW will be doing a double header. First is an event called Pitfighter X on Semptember 10th. Then on September 11th they will have NHB Volume 6, “Rollin’ with the Punches” from the “Blood Shed”. It will be Invite only and on IWTV.
IWA Midsouth
IWA Midsouth have announced a TRIPLE header in September. On September 25th they’ll be in Connersville, IN for Prince of the Deathmatch, September 26th will be Circle City Showdown in German Park in Indianapolis and on September 27th it will be the return of the Double Death tag team tournament.
The first teams announced for the Double Death tournament are
The Young Dragons: Josh Crane and Dale Patricks
44.Oh: Eric Ryan and RSP

Atticus Kogar, Lucas Jacobs, Kevin Giza and Logan James are the first four participants in the IWA MS Prince of the Deathmatches 2020 tournament, which will take place on September 25th.
ICW: Milwaukee
ICW: Milwaukee is running their Insane 8 tournament on August 30th live on Fite.tv. They’ve announced as much of the line up as possible.

In the first round it’ll be John Wayne Murdoch vs. Orin Veidt in a Panes of Glass match. Orin is the ICW “ace” and has won the last 2 Insane 8s back to back. Murdoch is one of the best and can toss Veidt around. This should be the best match of the first round honestly.
Rick Noren faces Shlak in a fans bring the weapons match. I don’t know much about Noren but I know ICW sees a lot in him.
Neil Diamond Cutter takes on ICW promoted Dysfunction in a lighttubes bundles and dry ice match. Dysfunction has a dry ice match with Markus Crane several years ago. Its a hard gimmick to work just because it is so hard to get the “feeling” across to the fans of how dangerous the dry ice is. Cutter is a guy from the South who never really had his big breakout despite being really talented.
And finally Jeff King takes on Akira in a barbed wire and lighttubes match. Jeff King is super underrated, very crazy and Akira is the up and comer with a lot to prove so this should be nuts as well.
In the semis they have doors of death, panes of glass, 4 corners of “insanity” and the finals reads like the back of a Stranglemania box. I’ll just copy and paste from the official description.
“Ultimate Insanity!! It will feature numerous Tube Cabins/Barbwire 2 sides Lightubes other 2 sides plus weapons from EVERY stipulation in the earlier Rounds!!”
Also on the card is Matthew Justice.
USA Notes
On August 15th Total Psychotic Wrestling had a show in Maryville, TN that looked pretty insane. It was a lot of the young guys led by Akira and Alex Ocean, just having those bonkers matches with lighttubes, glass, scaffolds and home made weapons. A step above Deep South but you can tell there’s not a ton of planning that goes on.

Zona 23
Zona 23 uploaded their August 9th show from an unnamed location somewhere in Mexico City to IWTV. I was supposed to be at that show. I was going to land in Mexico City at 11 AM with a 1 PM start time for the show. However when I got to the airport my flight was moved back to a 1230 landing time and I just gave up and took my refund (the taxis were more than the flight).
The show was really nothing too spectacular. They were not in the junkyard, they were in some kind of housing complex. There weren’t many of the crazy younger guys and instead it guys like Ovett and Demoledar who have been surpassed in the talent department.
In the opening match they did a spot where they hung Osiris from a piece of wood in a spot that I’m sure looked better on paper and the second half of the show had a serious rainstorm.
The only highlight I can really go into is the women’s match between Sadik Maiden and Nega Guerrera. I don’t even know how to review it but its definitely must see. The match is a bit clunky and dangerous and you feel the match falling apart as it goes. They had lots of tubes and skewers and Sadik won with a top rope leg drop. The match did not look “well planned.”
The highlight was after the match. I don’t speak Spanish so I’m not sure what was going on but some fan was heckling the women and Sadik left the ring and attacked the fan with lighttubes. The fan no-sold it but had some cuts on his neck. Later she was threatening another fan with a broken lighttube and you could tell no one wanted to back down to her but they looked pretty nervous and worried.
Then Guerrera attacked Sadik in what looked like an absolute shoot. They wrestled to the ground with Guererra on top, not much real action, then Guererra grabbed a brick and tried to hit her but someone stopped it. Its 18 minutes of film I recommend every one take a glance at.
GHC
GHC has another horror movie show, called There Goes the Neighborhood, on IWTV that was also recorded on August 9th.
The show appeared to take place in a… closed sports center of some sort, like where you’d play racketball, on a property with pools in the background that they called the Murder Mansion. The fans were all seated at large banquet tables with their kids and family, I don’t even know how to explain it.
One thing that just made me giggle was the referee kept trying to enforce rules, like demanding they go back to the “fighting area”, in this no ring deathmatch show.
I can’t say the show was amazing but it was definitely different. The main event was the best match with brawling up and down the house, dives off high places, tons of fan weapons, lots of thumbtacks, lot of blood, Shyru Jr. got especially banged up.
It should also be commended that the team behind GHC did as good a presentation as possible with a knowledgeable English commentator who knew all the guys.

FREEDOMS
The Freedoms Tokyo Deathmatch Carnival Vol. 2, on August 31st, will air on Samurai TV on September 12th.
Violento Jack announced that he will be doing shows for Michinoku Pro on September 12th and 13th.
BJW
BJW has announced the stipulations for all of the matches going into the 8/29 and 8/30 Yokohama shows.
On the 29th you have Yuko Miyamoto, Isami Kodaka & Kankuro Hoshino vs. Masaya Takahashi, Takumi Tsukamoto & Drew Parker in just a weapons deathmatch, Jun Kasai & “Black Angel” Jaki Numazawa vs. Toshiyuki Sakuda & Yuki Ishikawa will be a Gussets, Razors and Alpha deathmatch while Ryuji Ito vs. Minoru Fujita in the main event will be a Lighttubes and Glass Board deathmatch.
On the 30th the only deathmatch will be Ryuji Ito, Abdullah Kobayashi, Takashi Sasaki & “Black Angel” Jaki Numazawa vs. Masaya Takahashi, Toshiyuki Sakuda, Yuki Ishikawa & Shunma Katsumata in a lighttube deathmatch.
The August 29th Yokohama show will air live on samurai TV, August 30th show will air on September 6th and the September 14th show will air on September 20th.

They’ve also announced the participants and dates of the Saikyou Tag League. They split the roster into Strong and Deathmatch divisions with the finals being the 2 winning teams facing off. For brevity I’ll only be covering the deathmatch divisions.
On September 14th BJW will be at Korakuen Hall and will start their Saikyou Tag League. The main event of the first night is Takeda and Tsukamoto vs. Miyamoto and Kodaka which should be fantastic. Tickets for the show are moving better than any show they’ve done since coming back from Corona.
On September 23rd and 24th BJW runs back to back in Shinkiba for more Tag League shows. On the 23rd they will have Abdullah Kobayashi and Minoru Fujita vs. Numazawa and Fukimoto in the main event and also the Brahmins vs. Takayuki Ueki and Masaya Takahashi in Ueki’s return match.
The 24th will be Frank Atsushi’s final appearance with the company where he will face Yuji Okabayshi.
The semi-finals will be on September 27th in Nagoya and October 7th in Shinkiba and the finals will be on October 20th in Korakuen Hall.
There’s a BJW Board Game of some sort. They have released a Youtube video showing Kobayashi, Sekimoto and a few others playing the game. It looks very simple where you roll a die and move your piece around the ring and land on pieces that deliver moves to you? I’m not totally sure. It LOOKS like you can play 1 vs. 1 or 2 vs. 2. It’ll go on sale at the Yokohama shows on the 29th and 30th.

Abdullah Kobayashi made mention that he’d like to run for mayor of Yokohama in the future. He talked about how he gas a deep connection to the city. You can read more at https://www.tokyo-sports.co.jp/prores/bjw/2084826/
Japan Notes
Mitsuhiro Matsunaga wrote a book about running a restaurant. In the book he talks about the GCW roster coming to visit him, they all would call him a legend and he liked their enthusiasm.
