The rocky start to life under Allegri again for the Old Lady continues, Moise Kean on his re-debut for Juventus made at costly error at the back that allowed Koulibaly to score an easy finish for a Napoli win. Elsewhere on Saturday, Venezia had a good 2:1 away win at Empoli and Fiorentina beat Atalanta 2:1 away from home as well. Much of the weekends action occurred on Sunday.
Inzaghi’s Inter were twice held the lead against Sampdoria in Genoa were pegged back and only came away with a point. Newbies Salernitana continue to leak goals, conceding 4 at home to Roma before the International break, and losing 4:0 away to Torino when the league resumed. AC Milan inflicted the first defeat of the season for Lazio, winning 2:0 at home. Ibrahimovic making his first appearance of the season, coming off the bench to score Milan’s 2nd.
A lot of Sunday’s chatter around Serie A was Jose Mourinho’s 1,000th game in charge. Mourinho’s Roma faced Sassuolo at the Olympico. A well worked free kick from Pellegrini, who played a lovely pass into the box. The delivery and method caught Sassuolo flat footed and Cristante scored with a lovely finish. Sassuolo came out with renewed vigour after half time and scored an equaliser through Djuricic. By far the better side going forward, and if it wasn’t for the heroic performance of new Roma #1 Rui Patricio, it could have easily been a Sassuolo win.
El Shaarawy came on late in the 2nd half and made the difference, scoring a classic goal in the 90th minute. Grazie Roma boomed around the Olympico in the end, a victory for Roma in Mourinho’s 1,000th game in management, and his record of never losing a Serie A home game intact largely thanks to Patricio.
Following this round of action, only 6 teams remain undefeated and only 3 have 3 wins from 3, Roma, AC Milan and Napoli. And rather strangely, Juventus find themselves in 16th.
