And people say that Serie A is defensive. 30 goals scored across 10 fixtures with only 2 scoreless draws. Serie A started with a bang last weekend and continued in that same vein, providing some of the best football action across Europe this past weekend. Udinese putting three past Venezia on Friday to get the ball rolling, Inter came back after going one down to come out of Verona with all three points.
Saturday continued in similar fashion but much of the scoring was from Lazio as they demolished Spezia 6:1 at the Stadio Olympico. A hat-trick from Ciro Immobile who was pretty shy in front of goal for Italy during Euro 2020. Saturday was capped off by a surprise win for Empoli against Juventus, beating the Old Lady one nil away in Turin.
On Sunday, Napoli edged out Genoa to a 2:1 win. Andrea Petagna getting the winner for Napoli in the 84th minute. AC Milan welcomed Cagliari to the San Siro, winning 4:1 in front of their fans, featuring two goals from new signing Olivier Giroud.
AS Roma continue shining under the guidance of the Special One, picking up a 4:0 win away to newcomers Salernitana. Mourinho’s side dominated the game but found little scoring opportunities in the 1st half. A goal glut in the 2nd half, two terrific goals from captain Lorenzo Pellegrini, Veretout continuing his scoring form but the highlight was a beautiful finish from Tammy Abraham to open his Roma account.
