Introduction
The marriage of Indi Hartwell and Dexter Lumis was the climax of WWE’s most recent love story. Their relationship developed in front of the audience’s eyes; it began with lingering glances, then grew to clumsy, flirty exchanges (blank staring counts as flirting from Dexter). Eventually, the relationship evolved into a full love affair and the InDex ship set sail.
After some time spent earning Candice LeRae and Johnny Gargano’s blessing (no easy task, but it was done nonetheless), and with some guidance from Beth Phoenix, Indi took a leap of faith and proposed to her man. NXT’s tortured artist nodded. It was his biggest display of emotion to date.
Soon, a date was set and the wedding was on.

The Big Day
The story of the wedding was perfectly executed. The segment played off the trope that weddings in wrestling always inevitably go to shambles. Three times, they teased InDex’s wedding meeting the same fate. The first was when it was revealed the rings had been lost, only for Ikemen Jiro to reveal he had them in his jacket.
The second instance was when all the wrestlers in attendance objected to the wedding when prompted by the minister (everyone’s a critic!). Dexter swiftly handled this, though, by flashing the shiny ax in his suit jacket. All the raised hands sank, and the ceremony continued.
The last hurdle came when the minister disrespected Dexter’s wedding vow (a very thoughtful thumbs-up to his bride). Dexter, enraged, strangled the minister and left him unconscious. Fans immediately began chanting names, looking for someone to step up and finish officiating the ceremony. Damian Priest was the first choice, but when he failed to show up they turned to William Regal, who looked appalled at the idea. Fortunately, Beth Phoenix was willing and able to step up to the plate.
The final moment of tension came when it was time for Lumis to say those two fateful words. It can’t be stressed enough that until his wedding, audiences had never heard Dexter speak. Luckily for his bride, and InDex fans everywhere, Dexter came out of his shell for just long enough to say “I do.”
The crowd erupted in applause (if my memory is correct, this moment got a louder pop than Ciampa winning the title). Indi and Dexter kissed, and left the ring together as wife and husband.
For the first time in pro wrestling history, a bride and groom had a successful wedding day.

Conclusion
This was probably the storyline that had the most fan enthusiasm behind it. This isn’t without reason, either; Dexter and Indi’s relationship was built up for months, with this wedding being the payoff. It was a phenomenal payoff, too. It was only right that the InDex wedding be the main event for the first episode of NXT 2.0, as Dexter and Indi are both fresh talent that will undoubtedly continue to be fan favorites heading into the show’s new era.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
