It’s fair to say that shortly after EC3 was called up to Raw, things didn’t go well for him. He picked up his biggest win by defeating Dean Ambrose, however since then he sat in catering before getting released.
It would start with EC3 being called up to become a bodyguard for the then heel Finn Balor. It would be just after WrestleMania and with Money In The Bank on the horizon, qualifying matches began on Raw. Finn Balor was set to face the top baby face on Raw, Seth Rollins, however due to an attack from a mystery person backstage Balor was unable to compete. This leads to EC3 taking the place of Balor. He defeats Rollins and has now qualified for the men’s Money In The Bank ladder match.
Money In The Bank
It is now May 21st, the day of MITB. Balor would be seen backstage, gripping onto a pair of crutches whilst helping EC3 plan for his upcoming match. The ladder match consisted of Elias, Kevin Owens, Daniel Bryan, Ricochet, Aleister Black and of course EC3. Just before the match a graphic is shown to the audience. It stated that Finn Balor would be making an announcement on his future tomorrow night on Raw. EC3 looked backstage for Balor but couldn’t find him anywhere. You could see the panic building up inside EC3, worrying why Balor didn’t tell him about his announcement. Despite this, EC3 would go on to win the ladder match and become Mr. Money In The Bank.
The next night on Raw, Finn Balor comes to the ring and says that he has been cleared to compete, however he still wants to find out who attacked him. EC3 comes to the ring and reveals that he attacked Balor, and now he is Mr Money In The Bank. Balor challenges EC3 to a match for the briefcase, EC3 accepts and tells Balor it will take place at Extreme Rules.
EC3 defeats Balor at Extreme Rules and retains the briefcase. He goes on to successfully cash in on then WWE champion Randy Orton at SummerSlam, holding the title and cementing himself as a main event superstar.
I would have loved to have seen EC3 vs Balor! Excellent read!
